These
are photographs of Dr Roopam's child.
I
knew Roopam as a neighbor in the apartment where I was
living. He was practicing as a pulmonologist in a hospital
in Cochin.
Roopam
came from Bengal, and when his father died recently,
he chose to stop being a medical doctor and start being
a dutiful son: He went back home to Bengal to live with
his widowed mother who didn't have any other son or
daughter.
This
is India. In India, relationships seem to acquire seemingly
unworldly proportions by Western standards.
